Writers, Authors, Poets, Critics are requested to follow the guidelines given below.
General Guidelines:
- All articles for publication must be sent in PDF, PMD, or MS Word files with Unicode or Anu fonts in Telugu by email to prasannabharathi.vsp@gmail.com
- Authors must give their name, address, telephone number, and cell phone number.
- Typed-out articles must be completely free of typographical or spelling mistakes. If Handwritten and sent by post, articles must be clear and readable. When poems are quoted, they must be thoroughly scrutinized, and there should be no spelling mistakes. Careful and complete verification after DTP is essential.
- Selection of an article for publication is entirely at the discretion of the Editorial Board. If an author desires that rejected manuscripts be returned, adequate postage stamps must be provided.
- At present, Prasanna Bharathi does not pay any remuneration to any author.
- Authors will receive a free printed copy of the journal carrying their article by ordinary post. However, all authors are requested to subscribe to the journal to establish a shared and lasting relationship.
- The article must be apolitical and devoid of any offensive content towards any caste, race, religion, or group.
The following forms of literature are accepted for publication:
- Classical Poetry only (Vachana Kavitvam is not accepted),
- Short Story and Novel,
- Essays on Literary Criticism, Language, Linguistics, Grammar, Prosody,
- Articles on Bharathiya or Telugu culture, history, and social fabric.
- Translations involving Telugu, English, and Sanskrit languages.
- Comparative Telugu literature – Ancient and Modern under the heading “Tenugu Thota”
- Snippets are not more than one-fourth of the page in the journal.
- Research publications of Ph.D. fellows,
- Vyakhyanam ( detailed in-depth, poem by poem, analysis of large poetic works like Kavyams and Prabandhams)
- Book Reviews.
- History of litterateurs: Andhra Rachayitalu
- Authors must declare that the article is entirely written/composed by them and not published anywhere.
- In case the article is already published elsewhere and the author desires to publish the same in Prasanna Bharathi also, he must state that the article is already published and give the name and date of the publication, and further state that he has complete copy rights thereto.
Poetry :
- Poetry conforming only to Meter (Chandassu) standards will be accepted.
- Vachana Kavitvam is not accepted.
- Geayamu (songs) are accepted under this genre.
- The length of the poem shall not exceed three A4 pages.
- Prasanna Bharathi reserves the right to publish long poems, Satakams, and Kavyams as a serial.
- The theme of the poem is left to the choice of the writer. However, poems that display new themes are preferred.
- Poetry must adhere to all the rules of prosody and diction. Prasanna Bharathi does not correct any errors in the works of authors therein.
- Criticism of the work of other authors in the journal will be received, and the author will be given a chance for his rejoinder.
Essays :
- Essays on literary criticism, language, linguistics, grammar, prosody, history, research, and culture are invited.
- The length may range from 5 to 7 pages.
- If the length exceeds the above limits, Prasanna Bharathi reserves the right to publish the essay as a serial.
- Essays must be sent by e-mail (not WhatsApp) to Prasanna Bharathi in MS Word in Unicode/Anu font and a PDF copy.
Research Articles by Ph.D. aspirants
Essays by the PhD aspirants are referred to here.
The general structure to be followed is as follows:
- Research articles should be around 5 to 7 printed pages in the journal.
- The main text must be divided into sections with brief subheadings as follows:.
- Brief Introduction
- Text with arguments
- Conclusion
- References for all quotations and texts/books relied upon must be included.
- The author must certify that he has not resorted to plagiarizing in any form.
- Essays must be sent by e-mail (not WhatsApp) to Prasanna Bharathi in MSWord in Unicode / anu font, along with a copy in PDF.
- Authors will receive a digital copy of the journal carrying their article and a physical copy of the journal by ordinary post. However, this is subject to payment of Rs 500 as fees.
Short stories, novels, and dramas.
- Writers may send their short stories, novels, or dramas for publication in the journal.
- The length of a short story should be around 5 to 7 printed pages in the journal. Novels and dramas will be taken for serial publication.
Translations
- Translations of poetry, novels, and short stories are accepted. Translators must have the necessary rights to do so from the original author.
- Translations of poetry must contain both the source language and its translation in the target language. Languages to be chosen are Telugu, English, Hindi, and Sanskrit.
- A commentary may be added concerning any unique aspects observed in the translation.
- Translations of novels/books for serial publication must be accompanied by the original author’s written permission.
Snippets
- Snippets are required by the editor to fill the gaps and avoid carrying over articles to distant pages.
- Authors must send snippets laced with humour, wit, witticism, repartee, or rare literary information.
- If snippets are culled out of a more extensive work, the source must be acknowledged.
- The length of a snippet can be a half, a quarter, or 1/8th of a page.
Book Reviews
- Prasanna Bharathi arranges for review books, mostly those recently published and received in its office, generally those sent by the authors themselves.
- Readers/subscribers may also contribute to the column. Authors may analyse major works and send their analysis in any of the formats below. They shall have to ensure that at least one copy is forwarded to the office of Prasanna Bharathi.
- Book reviews taken for publication may be any one of the following types:
- Grandha Sweekaram: Books were received at the journal office. It is a brief containing the author’s details, availability, price, publisher’s name, and a couple of lines about the content and genre. Length should be around 1/4th of a printed page.
- Pustaka Parichayam: Usually, there is not more than one printed page, with information as to the contents and the main message.
- Grandha Sameeksha: This is an essay of lengthy literary criticism covering all aspects of interpretation, analysis, judgement, and evaluation. There is no restriction on these essays as to their length, and as such, the editor reserves the right to serialize the publication.
- When books are sent to its office, Prasanna Bharathi reserves the right to review them in any of the above three formats.
Andhra Rachayitalu
- Prasanna Bharathi has been publishing posthumously the details of an author’s life and his literary work under this title.
- These are usually essays, one page in length, containing a brief outline of the departed author’s career, background, list of his works, and a few quotations and general remarks.
- These articles are expected to guide future researchers, apart from functioning as a historical record.
Comparative Literature—Tenugu Thota
- Under this heading, Prasanna Bharathi has been publishing selections of classical poetry leading up to the nineteenth century and classical poetry thereafter.
- The selections must be on an identical theme in both time zones.
- The essential purpose is to illuminate the style and exposition of long ago and how it has changed in the present times.
- These selections typically contain a brief explanation in standard prose coupled with meanings of words (where needed).
